Make a Stranger Feel Important

You're probably thinking, oh, I don't have time to do that! Or perhaps, that would take way too much work! On the contrary. Simple things will do the trick. If you notice someone is walking behind you into a building, stop in order to hold the door open for them. If you're driving and you pull up to a 4-way stop with another driver to your left or right, wave them on. I know the inclination is to buzz through the intersection, whomever moves first goes first; try being courteous next time. When you're walking down the sidewalk, smile and say hello. All it takes are small things to make a stranger feel important.

Learning is Life Long

Graduation season is upon us. Students are looking ahead with baited excitement at a territory that's quite foreign and unknown to them: the real world. Students will take the final exam and with a sigh of relief proclaim, "I am done with school!" Little might they know about the necessity of life-long learning. It's a survival skill, to be able to realize, adapt to and appreciate the changes in the world around you.

Know Yourself

Trouble springs up all the time; there’s no predicating it,and no stopping it. But the way you deal with it when it comes knocking defines who you are as a person, and if you can face your troubles and say strongly, “This is who I am,” then you’re already halfway to overcoming them.

Lemons to Lemonade

It rained and rained and rained this weekend. Dull, dreary weather. Since I couldn't do the things that I wanted to do, all of which would've taken place outdoors, I found myself stuck inside more or less, contemplating what to do. You live, you act, you learn. However, based on past experience we know every single moment is an opportunity for something magnificent. Don't waste them.

Goes, Comes Around

Here's a story for you: Roughly five years ago, I was at a small music festival in the Midwest with a group of friends. We arrived around lunch and grabbed some food. Most of the music at the festival was free save for a few stages that charged an additional admission fee in order to enter; sure, you could still hear the act from outside of the paid gate, but the experience simply wasn't as dynamic since you really couldn't see much of what was going on.

The Important Things

Sometimes it’s easy to get lost in life’s bad moments, but never forget the little moments that make life wonderful. You could fill a journal each day with all of the little moments that touched you or made you smile or restored your faith in humanity. Never discount those moments, because they will always overwhelm the bad ones.
