Positive Stories

Ducky

When I was a kid, my favorite toy was my rubber ducky. Older now, I have a whole collection of rubber ducks, pirate ducks and ninja ducks, football player ducks and multicolored ducks, more kinds of ducks than the younger me ever knew existed. I keep them scattered around my room, and anytime I feel down, just seeing one can bring a smile to my face.

The Last Time You've Gone Back in Time

I was reading through some of my favorite blogs the other day, and one of them featured the topic about reflecting on one's life, and looking at where you are right now, and how the decisions you've made throughout the course of your life have contributed to bringing you to where you are today.

The Way It Works

When I was younger, I used to be afraid to show my true self to other people. Then it occurred to me that the only person whose opinion mattered was my own, and that if I loved myself everything else would fall into place. I’ve held onto that mindset, and I’ve found that when you love who you are, other people will sense it and love you too.

A Special Day

I really started noticing it in college, and surmised that once school was out, things would slow down again. I don’t think that actually happened!

Vacation

Sometimes you just need to escape from life for a while—go on a little trip. Even if it’s just a short, day-long trip, it never hurts to step back and relax. The calming effect is incredible.

The Little Things

There’s nothing quite like the joy of losing yourself in a favorite hobby. Whether it’s fishing, or knitting, or drawing, or collecting something, everyone should have one thing they can completely give themselves over to, something that helps you relax and collect your thoughts.

In Control

One afternoon when I was about ten years old, I was outside playing the game of keep-away with some neighborhood boys. It's a 1-versus-everyone game, where everyone tries to keep the ball away from the one person. If the one person wins the ball, the last person in the other group to handle the ball is "in the middle", and have to try to get the ball back.
