Positive Stories

Friends Forever

I just read a story in the paper of a local woman who will be donating a kidney in order to save her best friend's life. She meant to donate the kidney last year, but just before the scheduled operation, the donator's husband was diagnosed with cancer and she consequently had to rescind her promise because of new medical costs.

Troubling Times

There are tough times in every relationship, whether it’s family, friends, or significant others. We just have to trust that, no matter what troubles arise or how they’re resolved, all will work out for the best. Even if it doesn’t seem like it at the time, you will eventually see that what happened was for the best.

Passion

Passion is like a liquid that swims inside us. We have a love for something, be it music, or art, or sport, but so often these passions diminish. This is sad, in my mind. Looking back, the fond recollection of things we used to do while operating with an obsessed mind, when you're involved in something you love so much you forget to eat. But how does one maintain, replenish, build upon passion?

Humanity

I was helping a friend move to a new city earlier this week, a big city, one where I was sure I would see the lowest of humanity at every corner. The two of us were trying to wrestle a big couch up three flights of stairs, and not doing so well, when two complete strangers offered their help. Later, when our car broke down in the middle of the city, another stranger helped us get it up and running. It seems that kindness flourishes in the most unlikely places.

“Go now, and live,” by Jeanette Leblanc

Experience. Dream. Risk. Close your eyes and jump. Enjoy the freefall. Choose exhilaration over comfort. Choose magic over predictability. Choose potential over safety. Wake up to the magic of everyday life. Make friends with your intuition. Trust your gut. Discover the beauty of uncertainty. Know yourself fully before you make promises to another. Make millions of mistakes so that you will know how to choose what you really need. Know when to hold on and when to let go. Love hard and often and without reservation. Seek knowledge. Open yourself to possibility. Keep your heart open, your head high and your spirit free. Embrace your darkness along with your light. Be wrong every once and a while, and don’t be afraid to admit it. Awaken to the brilliance in ordinary moments. Tell the truth about yourself no matter what the cost. Own your reality without apology. See goodness in the world. Be Bold. Be Fierce. Be Grateful. Be Wild, Crazy and Gloriously Free. Be You. Go now, and live.

Back to Familiar Territory

Spent a couple of days in Chicago with my fiance. One of our favorite musical acts was visiting the city, and we promised ourselves we wouldn't miss their show if they came near to our area. I'll admit, I was a little apprehensive about returning to the city. I used to travel a lot in the area for an old job I had, and much of my experiences there in the past had left me will ill feelings.

Freedom

Remember when you were a kid, and the best day of your life was the first day of summer? When life was full of endless possibilities, and not a single thing could hold you back. When you believed fairy tales whole-heartedly, without any reserve—when dragons and princesses and the tooth fairy were as real as the life-lines across your palms. When every new experience filled you with wonder, when you knew there were some things that could never be explained. These are the things they speak of when they say you should hold on to your inner child.

Moments

You never know when it will strike—at a wedding, a birth, a funeral, a birthday, a simple dinner, or even at no special occasion. But at one point or another, each of us will feel the preciousness of life, and the wonder found in the smallest moments.

A Little Help From Friends

When I was a young man, there was a pretty bad flood in our town. Not strong enough to take out entire house, but powerful enough to fill basements to the brim, weakening the house structure. One of my good friend's family experienced this very episode: the rains came, the sewers swelled to overflow, and they lost EVERYTHING in their basement.

Collaboration

There's nothing like working with other people towards a common goal, however, it's not always easy. There are differing skills, differing opinions. It takes a good amount of trust and communication in order to achieve something together.
